Mother of pearl is created when mollusks, such as oysters, coat internal impurities with thin layers of nacre, creating a smooth, resistant surface with a unique iridescent shine. This same material is what gives rise to natural pearls, making mother of pearl a “precious skin of the sea,” with the same charm and sophistication.
Transformation and delicacy in every detail
After extraction, the mother of pearl is carefully cut, polished, and shaped into thin sheets or small pieces. Each fragment reveals unique nuances of color and shine, which vary according to the light and viewing angle. These pieces are then manually applied to structural details, clasps, mosaics, or finishes, giving rise to exclusive bags, marked by natural luxury and delicacy.
